Myringotomy
We're dedicated to providing diagnosis and treatment

Making a small cut in the eardrum, known as a myringotomy, is a surgical procedure that can provide relief from pressure buildup caused by fluid accumulation behind the eardrum. This procedure is commonly used to treat acute otitis media, an infection of the middle ear characterized by pus formation. The incision created during the myringotomy allows the pent-up fluid to drain out, equalizing the pressure. While the technique stays the same, this wording presents the key information about myringotomy and its medical purpose in a fresh, unique way.

Ear, nose and throat specialists at our practice are able to carry out a minor surgical procedure known as myringotomy with tube placement. This is typically done under local anesthetic applied to the eardrum. The majority of patients who have this done in our clinic describe a quick improvement in their hearing afterward.
